Elizabeth Addison is an award winning printmaker and installation artist. Her monoprints involve layers of meanings with the use of depth and complexity masquerading as something much simpler. She is drawn to intense color and iconic images from the past — many are from 1930’s to 1950’s era advertisements and publications or old family photos.
Elizabeth evokes strong emotional content in incorporating imprints of everyday objects (keys, children’s toys, birth control dials, coins, puzzle pieces), unique textures, and found images. The layers and veils of detail are not apparent at first sight because the whole compositing appears unified, but upon taking a leisurely look at an original print you discover the subtle and sometimes humorous details.
Studio 1509, Elizabeth’s printmaking studio, is open to the public during 2008 East Bay Open Studios — Saturday and Sunday, June 14 & 15, 11am - 6pm.
Elizabeth Addison’s prints are regularly featured at Kiss My Ring, 2522 San Pablo Avenue (@ Dwight Way), Berkeley.
